Kana Iwata (岩田カナ) is Oxnard's owner and Laura's best friend. She is a friendly and artistic girl, who generally serves as Laura's sidekick and companion.

Kana is a young girl and the owner of Oxnard. She has long, dark brown hair and round glasses. She lives with her mother and father, Cindy and Conrad Iwata. She also has an extended family of relatives - with many aunts, uncles, and cousins, who she visits on occasion.
In a few episodes (most notably Courage, Cappy!), Kana is shown to be an artist. She makes detailed paintings and sketches, mostly in the likeness of her beloved Oxnard. However, her artistry was poked at very little in the series overall.
Kana is best friends with Laura Haruna. They met each other in a small shop, on the day Laura moved into town, after an awkward run-in involving a hamster stationary set. Sharing a deep bond for hamsters, Laura and Kana quickly became best friends. The two girls are almost always seen together, partaking in many leisurely and academic activities with each other.
Kana is also good friends with other girls in the neighborhood; such as June, Kylie, and later in the series, Mindy. She also seems to have a crush on Mindy's older brother, Kazuya.
